DESIGN YOUR OWN ‘ONE OF A KIND’ MICRO WEDDING EXPERIENCE
Intimate, meaningful, sentimental - what’s not to love about the ever popular ‘micro wedding’? This wedding trend continues to be a hot favourite for 2024 and 2025, but that doesn’t mean you need to do it like everyone else.
As someone who loves to see a couple go their own way, celebrate their unique love story and make every moment matter, here’s my take on how you too can design your own micro wedding experience and what details you definitely don’t want to pass up.
Before we dive in, have you downloaded my wedding planning guide yet? It’s a must, especially if you’re planning a SE QLD or Northern Rivers wedding. It’s yours for FREE right here.
Making the most of a micro wedding
Before you begin cutting back your guest list or putting down a deposit on that cosy chapel you just found on Instagram, start with getting clear on why ‘bigger is definitely not better’ for you.
Whether it’s a budget decision, a personal preference to have only close family and friends present, or you love the idea of creating an ‘outside of the box’ experience, knowing why you’re wanting to design a micro wedding will help you craft something truly unique to you that doesn’t miss the point. The last thing you want is to get excited pulling things right back, to only realise later on that some of the traditional elements were actually quite meaningful to you as a couple. So sit down together, get clear on why a micro wedding feels good to you and let it inform every next step.
Knowing who to invite to your micro wedding
There’s no easy way to do this except being really honest about who you want to be by your side on your big day. Who do you want to turn to and share a tear with or laugh uncontrollably with at the end of the night (besides your new husband/wife)? Who could you not do this day without, and who feels like a no-brainer when it comes to being witness to this next chapter of your love story? Avoid any extra invites that feel obligatory or that see you ‘people pleasing’ yourself away from your micro wedding dream. It’s YOUR day, so let your dream wedding win over any fears of disappointing people.
Less people = more personalised
The plus side of opting for a smaller-scale wedding and therefore a smaller guest list, is that you truly do get to make the experience so much more personalised. Whether that’s in how you invite your guests, what role they play on the day, the level of interaction you actually get to have with them between the altar and the party, or even the experiences you could arrange for guests on either side of the actual wedding day. Take this as your opportunity to craft a personalised wedding experience that leverages the intimacy you’ve created. The love in the room is going to be through the roof so let’s channel that into some incredible memories.
Micro ceremony details
With fewer eyes on you as you say your vows and a more intimate setting to say ‘I do’, the options are endless with how you can design a ceremony that’s jam packed with sentimental touches. From decor to seating layout, celebrant interaction with the guests or even sharing your vows in a unique way, everyone in that room is hand picked by you to create a truly unique and intimate environment where you can honour this precious moment with your own special touch.
Cute and cosy micro wedding locations
When you decide to go micro, a whole new world of possible wedding locations opens up and you really do get your pick from almost anywhere. If your unique love story had a backdrop, what would it be? From stunning libraries to lush gardens, your favourite park or where you shared your first date - let your mind run wild through your love story and choose a venue that feels undeniably you.
Capturing the up-close and personal
When it comes to capturing a micro wedding, your photographer needs to be skilled at not only fitting seamlessly into the day and with the vibe of your guests, but also understanding the emotions and nuances that come with such an intimate celebration. Having photographed elopements and other micro weddings before is a huge plus. Look out for the intimacy and emotion in their storytelling, and hear what others have to say about their presence and energy. Your photographer will be right there beside you through every close-knit moment of your day so choose wisely. If you’re still looking, I know a guy!
For the lovers with their heart set on never missing the moment, a micro wedding can be the ultimate opportunity to create a memory that perfectly matches the depth of your love story. The details become your chance to frame what’s most important to you, and that will forever mean more than any trend, so have fun designing the day of your dreams.
